SUMMARY:Addressing the Needs of At-Risk Youth to Promote Resilient Communities
DESCRIPTION:10 visitors from the Western Hemisphere will be coming to make professional connections in San Diego exploring primary prevention programs for at-risk youth\, including family support\, after school activities\, life skills\, job training\, truancy\, and dropout prevention. They will be exploring the power of public-private partnerships by looking at the efforts of state and local governments\, schools\, community-based organizations and faith-based groups to identify\, disrupt\, and address behaviors that can lead to delinquency and gang involvement. The visitors will highlight support services for at risk\, delinquent and gang-involved youth and their families to improve parenting and encourage positive choices. They will be examining a range of re-entry programs for youth who have recently been released from incarceration.

SUMMARY:Combatting Trafficking in Persons
DESCRIPTION:20 visitors from multiple countries across the globe will be joining the San Diego Diplomacy Council to discuss Combatting Trafficking in Persons. \nThis project supports a major tenet of U.S. foreign policy: the human rights imperative to combat trafficking of persons for the sex trade and slave labor. Discussions will focus on best practices to disrupt the supply and demand chains. Participants will examine U.S. legislation; visa regulations; enforcement against and prosecution of traffickers; initiatives to identify\, protect\, assist\, and provide services for trafficking victims; efforts to raise awareness through the media; and local\, national\, and international cooperative efforts to combat trafficking in persons. Participants will meet with local\, state\, and federal government agencies\, law enforcement\, educators\, NGOs\, faith-based organizations\, and advocacy groups to examine how the U.S. public and private sectors collaborate to end trafficking\, both domestically and internationally.

DESCRIPTION:5 delegates from Canada will be coming to make professional connections in San Diego examining collaborative initiatives among federal and state-level law enforcement agencies\, investigators\, public health experts\, legislators\, and prosecutors to address wide-scale substance abuse and to combat the production\, transfer\, and sale of illicit drugs. They will engage with counterparts in community-based NGOs and the private-sector who advocate policy change in the government\, raise public awareness about opioid addiction\, and explore factors that place certain populations at higher risk for dependency. They will also bolster bilateral partnerships and enhance strategies to decrease the number of opioid-related deaths both in Canada and the United States.

DESCRIPTION:20 Visitors from multiple countries will be coming to make professional connections in San Diego examining the role of arts education in encouraging young people\, both at-risk and not risk\, to act as responsible and engaged members of society.They will explore the geographic\, ethnic\, and religious diversity of the U.S. population and how innovative arts programming can be instrumental in encouraging community stability\, managing conflicts\, developing youth leadership and conflict resolution skills\, addressing personal and community healing\, and promoting cross cultural understanding.They will also illustrate the role of performing arts as it relates to constitutionally guaranteed free speech and expression and its power and potential to shape contemporary values and build civil society and explore the diversity of roots of distinct American genres of music\, art\, and theater and their role in creating and reflecting a dynamic social system.
