DESCRIPTION:With a new president ending six decades of rule by the Castro family and a draft of a new constitution containing many political\, economic\, and social changes\, Cuba is entering a new era. Learn more first-hand when you visit Cuba on our citizen diplomacy trip next spring! There are just a few spots left! \nWe will be partnering with Cuba Cultural Travel to offer a citizen diplomacy trip to Cuba from March 1-8\, 2019! The itinerary includes visits with professors\, journalists\, artists\, historians and alumni of our exchange programs across the country in Havana\, Artemisa\, Cienfuegos and Trinidad. \nCuba Cultural Travel began operating tours to Cuba over 15 years ago with a team of two and has since grown in reputation\, knowledge\, and staff. Since CCT began bringing groups of Americans to Cuba in 1999\, their focus has remained the same\, Bringing People Together. They pride themselves in creating itineraries highlighted by the arts and cultural experiences as well as the best accommodations and restaurants. Over the years\, Cuba Cultural Travel has cultivated numerous relationships with some of the best artists\, musicians\, and scholars Cuba has to offer. \nCuba Cultural Travel is authorized by the United States Treasury Department to operate people to people tours in Cuba. These specialized tours were an effort by the Obama administration to foster understanding between the people of America and Cuba. SUMMARY:Global Social Hour Honoring 2019 International Women of Courage Awardee
DESCRIPTION:Now it its 13th year\, the Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award (IWOC) annually recognizes women around the globe who have demonstrated exceptional courage and leadership in advocating for peace\, justice\, human rights\, gender equality\, and women’s empowerment\, often at great personal risk and sacrifice.\nNaw K’nyaw Paw\, a peace activist and General Secretary of the Karen Women’s Organization (KWO)\, will be coming to San Diego to collaborate with local organizations and businesses on strategies and ideas to empower women both in the United States and abroad. Also in attendance will be 20 educators and education administrators from 11 countries visiting San Diego on the U.S. Department of State’s IVLP program during the same week. Countries represented include Kurdish Iraq\, Bolivia\, Georgia\, People’s Republic of China\, Russia\, Tunisia\, Turkey\, United Arab Emirates. \nAfter the event\, please join us in the Four Flowers Theater for the annual Rhythm in Blue production. Over 60 students from the percussion and band program have combined to create an exciting show of all things rhythm! The show will feature contemporary percussion ensembles\, world drumming\, driving drumlines\, and a wide variety of visual and rhythmic selections. \nYou can RSVP to the event here.
