Global Security and Cybersecurity: The New Frontier

With our unique itinerary of guest speakers, diplomacy simulations, group projects and supporting cultural enrichment activities, the Diplomats of Tomorrow Academy (DoT) is ideal for High school students looking to increase their cultural understanding and global acumen, while building their resumes and connections with peers.

The weekly programs will include discussions with U.S. and international experts on key foreign policy topics, a diplomacy simulation, and cultural offerings. At the conclusion of each session, participants will earn a Certificate of Excellence in Global Leadership on the topic of the session. We will offer two sessions of summer programming in July for high school students.

Back for a sixth consecutive year, the DoT Summer 2025 will run for two weeks in July.

The Diplomats of Tomorrow Academy will be offered as an in-person opportunity, please check the module you enrolled in to see which location it will be hosted at. The week-long modules are offered weekday mornings from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm Pacific Time, and are open to High School students in the U.S. and abroad (entering grades 9 - 12). Students may register for one or more modules as suits their interests and availability.

Both paid and scholarship positions are limited.

Cost: $540 per week

Scholarships

SDDC strives to bring diverse cohorts of students together for each module of this program, and recognizes that cost should never be a barrier to participation in our programs. Thanks to our generous sponsors and funders, we are typically able to offer scholarships for students in need of financial assistance and/or who are underrepresented/underserved in their community.

By the end of this course, you’ll think like a diplomat, understand global decision-making, and see how international affairs shape your daily life. How do countries defend themselves in an age where a cyberattack can shut down an entire city? What role does the U.S. Navy and Marines play in protecting global stability? And how does cyber warfare change the rules of international conflict?

Through hands-on cybersecurity challenges, strategy simulations, and discussions with military and cybersecurity experts, you’ll learn how nations fight threats both on the battlefield and behind the screen. This is your chance to explore a career in national security, military intelligence, or ethical hacking—and to be at the forefront of defending the digital world of tomorrow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Diplomats of Tomorrow Academy (DoT)? Expand

The Diplomats of Tomorrow Academy (DoT) is an engaging and immersive educational program designed for middle and high school students eager to expand their global acumen, cultural understanding, and leadership skills. Through a carefully curated itinerary featuring expert guest speakers, diplomacy simulations, collaborative group projects, and cultural enrichment activities, DoT provides students with invaluable hands-on experience in international affairs and diplomacy.

Each week-long session delves into key foreign policy topics, offering students the opportunity to engage directly with U.S. and international experts, participate in diplomacy simulations, and explore cultural perspectives. At the end of each session, participants will receive a Certificate of Excellence in Global Leadership, recognizing their achievements in the program.

Who can participate in this program? Expand

Pacific Ridge School, 6269 El Fuerte St, Carlsbad, CA 92009

  • Global Security & Cybersecurity: The New Frontier for High School Students

What are the safety protocols for attending GLYP in-person? Expand

La Jolla Country Day strongly recommends vaccination and (as age appropriate) a booster for students participating in the program in-person. It is expected that everyone participating in-person will notify SDDC/LJCD staff if they are feeling sick or have symptoms of any illness. Participants who are not feeling well are encouraged to stay home. Safety protocols are subject to change based on evolving state and local requirements and guidelines.

How many modules can I take? Expand

This summer, we are offering three modules for high school students. Please reference the above schedule for specific descriptions and dates. High school students can take one or more modules to suit their interests and schedules. While the modules and learning that happens in each are complementary and tend to build on one another, modules are designed to be independent, stand-alone offerings, so that students need not take one module to understand/keep up in another.

We are currently offering just one module for middle schoolers.

Is there financial assistance available? Expand

Yes! We are delighted to have fully-funded scholarships available for students in need of financial assistance, and/or who identify as underrepresented and underserved in their community. Students who would like to apply for a scholarship can do so when completing registration . SDDC will send notification of scholarship information and information on proceeding to complete registration.

What if I can’t find a ride to the program? What are other options for transportation? Expand

It is the responsibility of students and their families to arrange transportation to the program. Click HERE to plan your transportation route using MTS Trip Planner.

What type of credit is offered for this program? Expand

For La Jolla Country Day School students only: The LJCDS for-credit option is offered to students currently enrolled at La Jolla Country Day School. This for-credit option requires the successful completion of all DoT modules, plus additional asynchronous course-work (readings, a research paper and an original diplomatic simulation). La Jolla Country Day students should register through the LJCDS Summer Camp website. They are offering a for-credit option for their students, as a program partner.

For questions and inquiries about earning LJCDS credit for your participation in DoT 2025, please contact Jonathan Shulman, jshulman@ljcds.org

If you participate in one module, the cost is $540.
