The Preuss Model United Nations Club has supported the San Diego Diplomacy Council through their participation in past events and wishes to further engage in international learning experiences, specifically our Global Leaders Online Program, a 4-week summer course in July for students ages 14-18 organized in partnership with La Jolla Country Day School. The program will give globally-minded teens from all over the world an opportunity to connect with international leaders and cultures, while contemplating questions that plague the world’s most critical thinkers. William Wong, student at The Preuss School UC San Diego is the President of the Preuss Model United Nations Club. He expresses the students’ struggle adapting to these unprecedented times. Due to COVID-19, they were stripped of their opportunities to enhance their education as many of their events or conferences have been canceled and have come across financial restraints. They are asking for your support in sponsoring students at the Preuss Model United Nations Club!
Hear what he has to say:
My Name is William Wong, I am a senior at The Preuss School UC San Diego, a Title I, college-prep school for low-income students first in their family to go to college. This year, I am also the President of the Preuss Model United Nations Club.
As one of our alumni and past President Kevin Vo said, ‘our goal is to nurture a well informed and politically active youth.” Because of that, I believe the Global Leaders Online Program will serve as a valuable force going towards our goal, especially for our underclassmen. Many events or conferences such as the San Diego Regional Model United Nations Conference were canceled due to COVID-19, and having opportunities like this will open many doors for our students, especially because it is both online and can foster interest in political careers as our school primarily concentrates on STEM related careers.
We’ve attended past events with the San Diego Diplomacy Council such as the Cali-Baja Summit, and have hosted several delegation events for a variety of countries at our school. Each event has had a drastic impact on every member and their communities as they bring back their experiences to their friends, family, and peers, who might not have first hand experience with global diplomacy and politics.
Our club firmly believes in bringing back to our community, and would love to have your support in sponsoring students at the Preuss Model United Nations club.“
