Thank you to everyone who joined us on October 5th at our Global Social Hour: Democracy – Local Roots and Global Impact! We had the opportunity to host 25 political leaders from 20 different countries, who shared some of their spectacular experiences and will return home with great memories from the US and new perspectives.
A big thank you to the mayor of Coronado, Richard Bailey, for the warm welcoming note, and to Mrs. Fern Gutierrez, the first female mayor in Belize, for the moving keynote speech on the importance of democracy on every level of society. Mr. Gabriel Marques de Azevedo, a councilman for Belo Horizonte City Hall, in Brazil, also delivered an inspirational speech on best practices in democracy.
Finally, thank you to our International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) group sponsored by the U.S. Department of State: “State & Local Government” from the Mississippi Consortium for International Development. We are always pleased to host different groups from around the world and create dialogue within the San Diego community.
