Towards a More Safe and Secure World: Cooperative Security Efforts

April 21, 2018 - April 25, 2018

11 visitors from multiple countries will be coming to make professional connections in San Diego studying U.S. programs that work to counter violent extremism, including the relationship between federal, state, and local programs. They will explore the underlying conditions that fuel extremism — political grievances, communal conflict, social structures, and economic disparity — and emerging trends to address them. The visitors will examine community-based efforts to build strong community resistance to violent extremism and promote tolerance, including community policing and prison rehabilitation programs. They will discuss how different sectors of American society work together to resist violent extremism, including government, academia, civil society, religious communities, and the private sector.
