Earlier this month, the San Diego Diplomacy Council organized an incredible trip for a group of American travelers to Colombia—a country profoundly rich in history, biodiversity, and sociocultural perspectives. During our visit, we were challenged to rethink conventions in everything from policymaking, public transportation, peacebuilding, (dis)information, community engagement, education, land cultivation, traditional cuisines, wine pairing, and art. Through an impressive array of presentations, meetings, and tours on all of these topics and more, we gained an appreciation for Colombia’s turbulent history, its nuanced present, and its hopes for the future through the lens of locals, diplomats, and professionals across the varied metropolitan, rural, and coastal regions of the country. This trip has left me in awe at the diversity of Colombia, its people, and culture, and taught me a lot about developing a future built on understanding the past. Thank you SDDC for this unforgettable adventure!
