UBL Fellows with House of Ukraine
The San Diego Diplomacy Council had the privilege to host three Ukrainian business leaders for the month of June. The Ukrainian Business Leaders: Promoting Innovation and Entrepreneurship (UBL PIE) Program intends to empower fellows through education, innovative economic, policy, and business solutions. We met Anna Herun from Zhytomyr, Yaroslava Moskalenko from Berehove, and Oleksandr Pereli from Odesa. All leaders expressed great interest in learning about San Diego’s businesses and how to grow as a leader for their community at home.
Anna is the CEO of the Ukrainian educational company “WinWin” that helps Ukrainian children and adults to learn English, Math, and Ukrainian. With qualification of CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching Adults as a Second Language), she runs international webinars and seminars for English Teachers. She is also in charge of “WinWin Café” opened near their school for socializing students. During her time in San Diego, she was placed with University of San Diego’s Ahlers Center for International Business. The Center is a central hub for global teaching and research for tomorrow’s business leaders.
Yaroslava is the CEO of LLC “STIF Eastern Europe,” she leads the company’s growth in the heavy machinery sector, specializing in noria (elevator) buckets. Her expertise includes overseeing global partnerships, strategic planning, and operations. Yaroslava is a winner of national educational grants and acceleration programs, as well as a founder of Victory Way, a Ukrainian business club for women. Yaroslava was assigned to HeraHub, it is the first international female co-working space. Its platform supports members through education, mentoring, and collaboration, giving them access to professional, productive work space where they can grow a prosperous business.
Oleksandr is the Director of the LLC “Green Gold Ukraine” which operates in the agricultural sector, notably on the sale of agriculture products and providing consulting services to farmers. Being the company’s leader for the past eight years, Oleksandr is experienced in general management of the company’s administrative, economic, and financial activities. He was placed at San Diego State University’s Wendy Gillespie Center for Advancing for Global Business. Founded in 2019, the center intends to promote with the purpose of expanding international curriculum, research, and engagement between academia and global organizations.
In addition to their worksite assignments are their gracious homestay and special event hosts. We would like to thank Marilyn (Lynn) Kaufhold, Felena Hanson, and Yen Tu & Joe Passaretti for their generosity and opening their homes to our fellows. Finally, thank you to Julia Guerrero, one of our SDDC Advisory Board Members, for hosting the welcoming reception for our fellows.
SDDC is very grateful to have this particular group. Since the beginning, they’ve been ecstatic about their journey. Not only have they built professional networks in our city, but platonic connections with our staff, the worksites, and home hosts. We wish them the very best with their business and community.
