The San Diego Diplomacy Council recently had the privilege of hosting an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) program in partnership with FHI360, under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State, tailored for professionals in law enforcement, military, and security sectors. This initiative was designed to bridge both linguistic and cultural divides between international participants and their U.S. counterparts. By focusing on the specific language and tactics used in policing and public safety, the program helped participants build the communication skills necessary for effective international collaboration and global security efforts.
Programs like this are more than just language training—they’re about connection. They create space for professionals to exchange ideas, share best practices, and build mutual understanding. Through direct engagement with U.S. law enforcement agencies and grassroots organizations, participants gained valuable insight into community policing and leadership strategies that they can take back and adapt to their own communities.
These kinds of exchanges are essential in today’s globalized world. At the San Diego Diplomacy Council, we believe that investing in professional development is a powerful way to equip global leaders with the tools they need to meet shared challenges with clarity, confidence, and cultural awareness.
