The San Diego Diplomacy Council creates international professional, cultural and educational experiences that connect and empower people and organizations, driving positive change in themselves, the community, and the world. The story of Carolina and Michele is one more example of how our programs empower world leaders to make a difference in their communities. Carolina Ramos, Latino Service coordinator at the San Diego LGBT Center hosted Michele Maignan, one of our fellows with the Young Leaders of the America Initiative. Michelle is the founder of Belle Créole, a micro-enterprise program that empowers people, particularly young women, who are living with HIV and AIDS in Haiti. The two worked together during the four weeks of the fellowship program and decided to continue collaborating after it ended.
Carolina was awarded a U.S. Department of State reciprocal trip to Haiti to deliver a course to inspire and empower the women of Belle Créole to work happier, healthier, and better. “Connecting world leaders is a beginning, empowering them is progress, and working together their future collaboration is our success” said Fabienne Perlov, Executive Director of the San Diego Diplomacy Council.
