Sushi-Class Taught By Very Talented Chef Roberto

May 27, 2020 Leave a Comment

It was a pleasure to host Diana Rowland, President of IntXel.com, and Jeff Roberto, sushi master, and owner of Sushi On A Roll (SOAR) for another successful culinary diplomacy event! Rowland walked us through the protocol for eating sushi like how it is completely acceptable for you to eat with your hands after using an oshibori, a warm towel, to clean them. Rowland also emphasized that the Chef is a master of his craft and it’s important not to overwhelm the sushi with flavors that the Chef didn’t include with things like soy sauce and wasabi. The very talented Chef Roberto taught us how to make a California roll, a spicy tuna roll, and vegetable rolls and how to prepare multiple types of sashimi. Not only did we leave with some new skills, but also with more insight about the hard work that goes into the process to make sushi, like choosing the fish and making sure it’s fresh and sustainable. “The whole industry is fun and there’s a lot of people who can’t do what we do as far as a sushi chef is concerned so it’s kind of a unique talent,” he explained.
