Armed Conflict and Pandemic in Ukraine: Insight from an IVLP Alum

April 27, 2020: 10:00 am - 11:00 am

The San Diego Diplomacy Council is pleased to announce our next event in the Global Leaders Online Forum series: “Armed Conflict and Pandemic in Ukraine: Insight from an IVLP Alum”, to be held on Monday, April 27th from 10:00 – 11:00am Pacific Time. This live webinar will feature International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alum and Ukrainian journalist, Mr. Andrii Dikhtiarenko. Mr. Dikhtiarenko will share his experience on how COVID-19 is affecting Ukraine, particularly in Kyiv and the armed conflict zone in Eastern Ukraine. He will also share how his IVLP visit to the United States has impacted his life and work.

Mr. Andrii Dikhtiarenko is Director of Realnaya Gazeta and a journalist with Radio Svoboda, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Russian news service. He works on the “Donbas Realities” radio program, a program that provides news and information about the current state of affairs in the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.

In June 2019, Mr. Dikhtiarenko visited the United States as part of an IVLP delegation from Ukraine focused on the topic “Promoting National Dialog Through Civic Engagement.” During their time in San Diego, the delegation met with community representatives from the National Conflict Resolution Center, San Diego State University Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and AjA Project. They also visited the Preuss School and had conversations with students from the Preuss School and La Jolla Country Day School.
